Series 16 – Episode 21. Saturday 7:05pm – 8:10pm. BBC iPlayer.
Ashley Roberts hasn’t put a foot wrong so far as the judges are concerned. Craig Revel Horwood even dusted off his ten paddle at Blackpool for a jive that Bruno Tonioli said would go down in Strictly history. It’s inconceivable that she won’t be in tonight’s show although voters are suckers for a “journey”, so maybe novices Joe Sugg and Stacey Dooley — still contenders at the time of writing — will give her a run for her money.
It’s all about musicals tonight and, because at this stage of the competition only the best dancers are still on the floor, we can expect it to be wicked rather than a rocky horror show.
Only six couples remain in the running after Graeme Swann and Oti Mabuse’s departure last Sunday, with Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman inviting the pro-celebrity duos back to the studio for another round of performances, with semi-final places up for grabs. This time, it is Musicals Week, which means the stars and their professional dancer partners will be tackling popular routines from West End and Broadway shows. The show begins with a group performance taking the form of a routine from the soundtrack of Mamma Mia!, before their stars are tasked with pulling off their individual dances. Judges Shirley Ballas, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood are on hand to deliver their verdicts and award points to the most successful stars. However, the competitors’ true fate will only be decided once the public has voted.
